The Biking  Tour of Nova Scotia is about to begin!

Welcome to the first post in our new BLOG! We are hoping that you will follow us, a group of four intrepid, foolish, middle aged former athletes and one seasoned Pro SAG Wagon Driver. Our mission is to  circumnavigate Cape Breton Isle, Nova Scotia, Canada.

The Cast of Characters:

Peter Conway, adding Nova Scotia to previous tours of The Carolinas 2008, Lake Champlain 2009, The Southern Tier (Transamerica ride) 2010  and  Glacier National Park, 2011.
Curt Johnson, Master Sagoneer, veteran of both  the Transamerica ride and Glacier

Richard Tanner, also a veteran of Glacier and our token Canadian

Tim Geisse, has conquered Glacier twice, plus many other rides too numerous to mention

Kirt Kirtland, 2013 draft choice and the rookie of the group.

Supporting us is VANNA, our famous Roadtrek RV and her sidekick Bennie (the trailer) who will carry all of our gear, food and even our weary  bodies when we are too pooped to pedal.

The Route:

Starting in the quaint village of Baddeck, we will follow the coastline of Cape Breton Isle for approximately 250 miles.  Our average will be about 40 miles per day. There is only one road in these parts, a rugged beauty named the Cabot Trail. It has been ranked as one of the top 10 most scenic bike rides in the world. Going in a clockwise direction, so we can hug the cliffs on perilous stretches, we will stay in a number of lovely fishing villages - Baddeck, Cheticamp. Dingwall, and Ingonish Beach. We will seek out whales, seafood, and celtic music. Some of us will also play a bit of golf on two courses ranked in the world's top 100.
Here is our timeline:
September 8th:        Gather in Halifax
September 9th         Travel by Vanna to Baddeck, unlimber, unpack and tune up
September 10-14     Circumnavigate Cape Breton Isle
September 14          Survivors will reconvene in Halifax and bid each other adieu.
